Fanlaw.org came about as the brainchild of two people.

Kym Masera Taborn, who on October 25, 2000 created an online list, Fanlaw - to "discuss the legal issues that affect online fandom's on a daily and not so daily basis."

And, Maria Cohen, who created a website in order to discuss and introduce legal information to online communities in a manner that was easy to understand.

It did not take long before the two concepts, and friends came together.
